Richmond Mall redevelopment’s exciting progress
The transformation of Richmond Mall continues to gather momentum, with major construction milestones clearly visible as the mall moves closer to the completion of its ambitious redevelopment later this year.
As Richmond Mall undergoes the most significant reinvention in its 50-year history, the vision of becoming the region's best destination for lifestyle, retail and community connection is becoming a reality.
One of the most exciting recent achievements has been the opening of Stage 1 of the PAK’nSAVE expansion. Shoppers are already enjoying the benefits of the larger supermarket, including an expanded fresh produce department, a significantly enhanced butchery and a wider range of products. The additional space is also helping reduce out-of-stock items, creating a better shopping experience for customers.
Attention is now firmly focused on Stage 2, where the future southern entrance to Richmond Mall is beginning to take shape. The roof over the new main Eastern entrance has now been completed, while the surrounding entrance walls are rising quickly. Over the coming weeks, the remaining roof structure will be installed before work begins on the internal walls.
When complete, Stage 2 will introduce 16 new retail stores and an exciting new food precinct featuring 12 food outlets.
Richmond Mall Centre Manager Belinda de Clercq says the new food precinct has generated exceptional interest.
"This is much more than a traditional food court – it's been designed as a vibrant place where people can meet, relax and enjoy great food together," she said.
"We've been incredibly pleased with the level of interest from food operators. People have really embraced the modern design, the variety of seating options and the inclusion of outdoor dining spaces. There is nothing quite like it in Richmond at the moment, which has made it an exciting opportunity for operators."
Belinda said the new internal food precinct is now fully leased, with retailer announcements expected in the coming months.
"We'll welcome two to three restaurants alongside around 10 additional food operators, with approximately 90 percent of them being completely new to the region. They will complement the fantastic range of food businesses already at Richmond Mall and provide customers with even more choice."
Belinda said another exciting milestone has been selecting the furniture for the new food precinct.
"The furniture for Stage 2 has now been ordered, and we're really excited by the look and feel that is coming together. There will be plenty of natural timber, greenery and comfortable seating throughout the space. It's all starting to feel very real."
Meanwhile, to allow construction to continue safely, some car parks have been temporarily relocated while work progresses. Some of these spaces will return as part of a redesigned and more efficient car park layout once the redevelopment is complete.
Richmond Mall continues to provide 13 accessible parking spaces close to key entrances during construction. On completion of Stage 2, this will increase to more than 16 accessible parks, strategically located near the new entrances to provide even greater convenience for customers.
