Momentous Richmond Mall redevelopment milestone met

10 March 2026

Stage 2 of the Richmond Mall Reimagined project is moving at pace and to schedule, with the momentous milestone of deconstructing the old food court building inbetween Farmers and PAK‘nSAVE recently reached.

Richmond Mall Reimagined is a multi-stage renewal of the entire Richmond Mall shopping centre, designed to turn the mall into an exciting, modern retail and lifestyle experience to benefit the whole region. The project is the mall's most significant reinvention in its 50-year history, realising the vision of being “the region’s best destination for lifestyle, retail and community connection.”

Stage 1 was completed in November 2025, with eight new stores joining the more than 50 existing businesses already operating at the mall. Stage 2, the larger stage of the project at the PAK’nSAVE side of the mall started at the end of 2025.

Jamie Gaskell, CEO of mall owners Tinline Property said the deconstruction of the mall’s middle section was a massive undertaking.

“The deconstruction of the old middle section of the mall was a huge job, and the team has done really well to successfully complete it,” Gaskell said. “People can see right through from the north-west to the south-east, but not for long. The foundations for the PAK’nSAVE extension are already being constructed, as are the foundations for the walls of the new larger part of the mall, which will ultimately be the home of new fashion and lifestyle brands and the exciting new dining destination. The roof is due to go up in April, and then the concrete flooring will go down,” he said.

“As the construction team moves around the site, some carparks are being cordoned off for safety. We thank everyone for their patience as the parks are reconfigured as works progress. The carparking at the side of the Stage 1 entrance will be re-established this month, with two extra disability parks also added.

“One of our construction programme priorities is to establish internal access for customers between the completed Stage 1 shops and PAK’nSAVE. We know this is important to our customers, so we will work hard for this to happen by the middle of the year,” he said.

Richmond Mall manager Belinda de Clercq said Christmas at the mall was truly magical as visitors and locals enjoyed the newly renovated Stage 1 area, with the refreshed space offering a glimpse of what’s to come.

“We were thrilled to see so many people enjoying the new space over the Christmas period,” she said. “It really gives our community a taste of what Richmond Mall Reimagined will look and feel like when it is finished - a teaser of the look, feel, and exciting brands that will be part of Stage 2.

Meanwhile, she said the mall is currently running a “Spend $20 and Win” promotion, giving shoppers the chance to win one of two e-bikes. The promotion runs until 29 March, with winners to be announced just before Easter.

“For Easter we also have some great family activities planned. There will be an Easter Hunt for the kids, and in the second week of the school holidays we’ll have magic shows and balloon twisting — plenty of fun for families visiting the mall.”

Belinda also confirmed the return of a customer favourite, Muffin Break.

“We’re just as excited as our customers about the return of Muffin Break. They’ll be opening in a brand-new kiosk and location, with the store aiming to open mid-March.”

She also thanked the community for their continued support during the redevelopment.

“We want to thank our customers for their loyalty and patience during this time.”
